Design of Wellbeing

An author-developed research framework by Janis Ozolins

Design of Well-Being is an emerging research-development framework developed by Janis Ozolins in dialogue with educational practice, personal development work, and international project cooperation. It explores how individual inner development and social well-being may be understood as interconnected and mutually reinforcing processes.

This framework approaches the individual and society as living, developmental realities that grow through cultivation, relationship, experience, and alignment, rather than as mechanical systems that can be improved through simple removal, replacement, or external attachment.

The work presented here is part of an ongoing research and development process. It includes a current thesis draft, an English article, and project-related public materials connected with the Nordplus Adult project “Happy Teacher – Happy Future”.

This webpage presents an ongoing research-development contribution by Janis Ozolins, developed with support from the Nordplus Adult project “Happy Teacher – Happy Future” (NPAD-2024/10113).

The materials published here reflect a specific line of inquiry that has evolved in dialogue with international project partners and is made openly accessible for wider educational and research use.

Short research overview

At the centre of this work is the question of how a person and a society may grow in ways that support one another. Rather than treating well-being as an isolated personal state, this framework explores it as part of a wider living relationship between inner life, social reality, culture, values, and experience.

A key distinction in this work is the difference between mechanistic and organic approaches to development. A mechanistic approach tends to treat the person or society as something that can be corrected by replacing the “wrong” parts with the “right” ones. An organic approach begins elsewhere: it sees life as something that grows through cultivation, integration, and attentive participation in the conditions that make development possible.

In this sense, Design of Well-Being asks how people and communities may grow toward greater harmony, depth, and sustainability through forms of development that respect the living nature of human experience.

The framework has also been explored through the Nordplus Adult project “Happy Teacher – Happy Future”, where international dialogue, exchange, and in-person meetings helped deepen the practical and relational dimensions of this research strand.
